Air Cadets Annual Awards Night Brewers Hill Middle School was this years’ venue for the 460 (Dunstable) Squadron Air Cadets Annual Awards Night. Prior to the awards ceremony the Town Mayor of Dunstable Cllr. Tony Green, along with the Squadron’s Commanding Officer Flt. Lt. Mick Bell inspected the squadron outside the school. The awards ceremony saw Dunstable Cadets Vincent Elderton and Sam Cox promoted to Corporal, whilst Cpl. Joshua McDade and Cpl. Rosanna Watling were promoted to Sergeant and Sgt. Nicola Simpson and Sgt. Joe Marr were promoted to Flight Sergeant. The Drill Cup, awarded to best cadet at drill, was awarded to Cpl. Mcdade, whilst the Ambler Cup, awarded to the cadet with best turnout, went to Cdt. Danielle Murphy. Other winners included Cdt. John Anderson, awarded the Flight Attendance Cup for best attendance on parade nights, and Cdt. Elderton was awarded the Rosemary Bateman Trophy. The RAFA cup, awarded by the cadets to the cadet considered to have had the greatest influence on the squadron throughout the year was received by Sgt. Marr. The Chapman trophy, for the cadet showing greatest academic achievement, was received by Cdt. Charlie Wright, and the Sports Trophy for best all-round sports achievement by Flt. Sgt. Dale Poole. The Hinchliffe Trophy, given to the squadron in the memory of Civilian Instructor Eric Hinchliffe and awarded for skills in marksmanship was awarded to Cdt. Jack McClune. The squadron also awards a trophy for the greatest effort and endeavour. This year the trophy, known as the Binbrook trophy, was presented by Flt. Lt. Dave Francis DFC of 460 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force, to Sgt. Lorraine Shaw. Finally, the Bowen Cup, presented to the Squadron by Sqn. Ldr. Dave Bowen, is awarded to the top cadet in the squadron and this year was awarded to CWO Lottie Matthews.
